Europe Expands IRIS² Satellite Constellation to 348 Units, Launch Starting in 2029
The EU has expanded its Starlink-rival IRIS² satellite network to 348 satellites. Launches begin in 2029, boosting government communications capacity by 60%.
The European Commission and the SpaceRISE consortium signed the implementation contract for IRIS², the European Union’s flagship secure connectivity constellation, on August 7, 2026. With this expansion, government and defense communications capacity will increase by 60% within the EU and 54% globally.
